Mr. Howell is responsible for the management and oversight of CSI's daily operations. Mr. Howell's success in the software industry stems from becoming an innovator and leader in niche markets. In 1984, he founded Vertical Computer Systems, Inc. (VCS) and for six (6) years profitably developed a variety of software products for manufacturers, veterinarians, aerial photographers, and print shops.
In 1990, VCS turned its focus toward the collateral lending industry. Mr. Howell realized the $5 billion dollar collateral lending industry was writing $35 million in loans a year, while managing their inventories and accounts mostly with pen and paper. VCS capitalized on becoming the first company to market business management software customized exclusively for collateral lenders, small retail jewelers, and firearms retailers. Mr. Howell was the sole developer of three software products: CompuPawn®, CompuGem, and CompuShoot; of which CompuPawn® became an industry standard and transformed the collateral lending industry by providing automated management of accounting, inventory, and other business functions.
Aware that success in the software industry is as dependent upon effective marketing and service as it is upon sound technology, Mr. Howell gradually expanded VCS to a full-time staff of 16, including software developers, sales staff, and support personnel.
In June 1992, 100% of the company's stock was acquired through a reverse merger with Xenogen, Inc. an OTCBB traded public company and renamed to Vertical Computer Systems of Delaware, Inc. (VCSY). Mr. Howell grew VCSY and provided all day-to-day management and leadership while he retained control of 66% of VCSY through October 1999, at which time Howell relinquished control of VCSY through the sale of his stock. Vertical Computer Systems, currently a private company, remains positioned as the leader in software services to the collateral lending industry, with its CompuPawn® product.
Mr. Howell's experience in both the public and private business sectors and his proven leadership skills are well suited to provide day-to-day, hands-on management of CSI and to develop strategies to position the CompuPawn software and ePawn Services as an industry leader.
